4.0 out of 5 stars Love it, but,
May 23, 2010

My grill will not be a year old for another month+ and the brash piece in the regulator came out when I unscrewed the gas tank (small camping propane can) Weber was great. They're sending me the pieces express delivery. I'm hoping it was just a fluke and it won't happen again. I'm handicapped but was assured that the repair was easy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Big Grill with a Small Footprint,
May 30, 2010

I have a small patio and wanted a grill that didn't take up space - this grill sits perfectly at the end of the 3' wide flower bed! I've had it for a year, and have only had a problem once...my own fault -don't try to RE-light it without waiting five minutes or it will not get hot. (follow the instructions printed on the grill).

It heats up very quickly ... hold a lot of food ... cleans up easily ... and it's portable (although I have no plans to take it anywhere)

I would give it 5-stars if it weren't for the side tables... they cannot hold much weight as they have no support from underneath... but they are handy for holding the tools and condiments

4.0 out of 5 stars Weber Q220,
May 28, 2010

We had planned to go camping, and needed a grill better than the small one we already had. So, we bought the Weber Q220. The size of it is excellent; more than big enough for our family of 4, and plenty of room on the porcelain-coated cast iron grate (which I also like, as it really holds in the heat). It can run off a 1-pound cylinder tank, but I would really only recommend that if you are going tailgating or camping for 1 night only. You'll burn through the small tanks fairly quickly if you cook a lot. We went through about a tank a day camping, and getting the adaptor hose to hook it up to the larger, 20-pound tank would be better for our use. At 40 pounds, it is heavy, but not too heavy for camping. But if you want a cast iron grate, it will be heavy. The side tables are great, and they were more than adequate for us, but I'd hate to put something REALLY heavy on them, like a very big and heavy platter of food. On the underside of the side tables there is utensil storage, which would be pretty handy, but our larger set of Weber spatula/tongs don't fit, so you have to buy the Q set if you want to utilize it. Gas output was certainly less than on my larger grill at home, and I did need to give the Q about 10 minutes to heat up (a good 15 minutes if you are using the Q6505 Griddle), but once at temperature, it worked fine. Compared to my larger grill, I did have to keep the adjustment knob turned closer to high to keep the temperature up, but it cooked beautifully. This grill does have only 1 burner, so it can be tricky to cook items that require more indirect methods, but I've seen lots of web pages on how to do that; I just haven't tried it yet. The thermometer in the lid is great; the smaller models of the Q don't have one. Overall, I'd give it a 4.5 out of 5 if I could, but I'll just have to rate it a 4 of 5.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Grill But...,
May 15, 2010

This is almost the perfect camping grill (assuming you have the space to lug it with you).

I have used it on one camping trip so far and used it to make pancakes and eggs (on the griddle Weber Q 6505 Griddle with Handles), chicken and steak.

The griddle did get hot enough and the steaks were nicely seared on the outside and pink on the inside. My home Weber grill with the searer burner is much hotter and therefore much better, but for the portability factor, this is the best I have tried yet (previously I have used a Coleman (too small for our much larger family) and a NexGrill (no where near hot enough in the 60 degree outdoor air)).

It did not get a skillet hot enough to make eggs on, but that is not suprising as the flame is well below the grate. Not a problem really. The low skillet temperature did however enable me to make eggs over easy, which I seldom have the patience to make.

I was disappointed that there was no way to carry it one-handed. I suspect all you would need is a latch or two to keep the lid snug to the base. This would also keep it together during transit in our trailer. I used a strap to keep it shut with the drip plate inside along with 3 extra canisters.

I was also disappointed to see that the cover did not encase the entire unit, but only the top. When traveling a washable bag type cover would be good to keep any drippings from messing up your other camping gear and to keep it from getting nicked up during transit. For now I am using a 33 gal plastic garbage bag.

I also was intrigued by my failure to get the 20# tank working on my third meal. I had being using a 20lb propane tank for many years on my Coleman while camping without a hitch, but for some reason I have not quite tracked down yet, I could only get it working for two meals on the Weber. I did remove everything and wait a minute and, with the weber turned off, reconnected the hose, turned the tank on, waited another minute, then turned the weber on then nothing. No gas was getting into the Weber. The 16oz canister worked just fine however. It will take more trial and error to track down the exact cause.
